I decided to brand the site as “Presto Comics” instead of “Ponytail Attorney” so I wouldn’t get locked in while I’m still here in the early stages. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enthused about P.A. and I’ve got months and months of storylines laid out, but I’d also like to use this site to showcase some other ideas I’ve got in the can. To that end, I figure I’d use a brief lull in my studying to pitch a new series I’m planning to do over the summer.
I make no secret of my adoration for superhero comics, whether it’s the lighthearted, Kirby-era insanity or the postmodern Grant Morrison-style reconstructionism going on over at DC right now. Essentially, my upcoming series “Minion” is going to be a more straight-up superhero style black comedy/drama. Without getting into specifics, it’s essentially about a henchman in a huge criminal organization (think HYDRA) who inexplicably winds up in charge after the old leader is disgraced and incarcerated. It’s going to explore what happens when a two-bit underling, barely capable of robbing a liquor store on his own, through dumb luck alone finds himself at the helm of an army of brainwashed henchmen, a volcano lair filled with doomsday devices, entire Leagues and Societies of superpeople out to get him, and so on etc.
It’s still in the really early stages. I’ve got a script for the first issue (this idea actually predates Ponytail Attorney by a few years), but I have to rework it for a serial webcomic style narrative. I’ve also done some rough sketches (very rough — that hair has got to go) which I’ve posted above. None of this is going to happen until summer at the earliest, I just thought it’d be kind of neat to keep a record of the development from idea to finished comic. Either way, check back here for more updates on Minion, as well as the next P.A. episode, “What Rough Beast?”
Hit the jump to see two unfinished pages from my first attempt doing Minion as a standalone 22-page comic book.
So I’ve just been informed that Firefox and this site haven’t been getting along very well. I offer my most sincere apologies, and extend to you as penance my middle-school Pokemon website from twelve years ago. Be sure to check out my hard-hitting editorial, entitled “Too Many New Pokemon???”
